Jimmy was born in Chicago, raised in Highland Park, Ill., and attended the University of Kansas, where he received a journalism degree in 1990. After an internship at Pro Football Weekly and brief stints stringing for the Chicago Sun-Times and The Daily Southtown, Jimmy joined the Chicago Tribune in 1995 answering phones on the high school sports desk.
In 1997, Jimmy joined the Tribune's Internet group and worked there for five years as a web producer and reporter. In 2002, Jimmy left the Tribune to cover the White Sox for MLB.com, then returned to join RedEye later that year as it prepared for its October launch.
Jimmy is a RedEye reporter, edits redeyechicago.com, writes a column for Page 4 every other Friday and contributes daily to Five On Five.
